Senior Human Resource Generalist
Serving as a key member of the department, this role will assist the Human Resource Director in administering day-to-day functions and maximizing efficiencies. The Sr. HR Generalist will lead or support tasks in areas such as legal compliance, immediate staff development, organizational enhancement, leave management, employee relations, training, multi-level coaching and the full employee life cycle. Being a member of the decentralized HR group, this position will be tasked with providing high-level customer service amid participating in both strategic and tactical duties as a leader. This position requires someone dynamic enough to be both an individual contributor and member of cross-functional project teams. The person selected should be able to maintain confidentiality, take initiative, be coachable and possess the ability to be consistently agile.
Essential Responsibilities
- Interpret, partner, create, and administer organization policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders inside and outside the organization.
- Supervised by the HR Director, this role will assist with disciplinary matters.
- Ensures compliance with contractual and department of transportation (DOT) requirements by affirming employee credentials up-to-date and preparing information/reports that are required. Administers the DOT substance abuse program and ensure compliance with mandates.
- Tends to non-unionized disputes; performance and talent management; productivity, morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Handles employment-related inquiries from employees and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Provides support to management in the resolution of issues of concern. Investigates employee issues, gathers information, provides recommendations, and prepares correspondence/response on specific subjects as needed.
- Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, and terminations.
- Prepares and presents training on supervisory and human resources topics as needed or requested.
- Provides statistical reports/data according to an assigned schedule.
- Establishes priorities for managing own work while staying on a focused, efficient path for achieving results.
- Acts as business ambassador and presents a positive image of the company.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; also reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance on a routine schedule with the team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Key Outcomes of this Position
- Ensures that all HR team members are welcomed, onboarded, developed in a consistent and appropriate manner leading to growth and long-term success.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Responsible for leading a workgroup towards the immediate manual creation of HR scorecard metrics monthly for leadership and eventually for an organization-wide dashboard.
- Delivering high-level Customer Service, emphasized by those aspects tied to employee engagement efforts, company values, support & benefits administration.
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS systems and processes.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Human Resources, Business Administration or higher, or related field with three (3) or more years of experience in a Human Resources Generalist type role performing similar functions is preferred.
- High School Diploma/GED with seven (7) or more years in a Human Resources Generalist role performing similar functions may be considered at the discretion of the HR Director.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification is preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding/knowledge of the fundamental aspects of human resources is required.
Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of Federal and State employment laws is required.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions consistently.
- Demonstrated organization, time-management, and communication skills.
- At least one (1) year of project management experience in a lead capacity towards the duties and responsibilities previously specified.
- Familiarity with Microsoft software including Office 365, Outlook & Share-point.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to talk to, hear others in person, via video meeting(s) or by phone.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15-25 lbs. at times.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
- Ability to work at multiple sites as needed as part decentralized HR group.
