GENERAL DESCRIPTION 
 
The Human Resources Generalist is a trusted HR partner for managers and employees.  Under the general direction of the Human Resources Manager, the incumbent will assist in the design and delivery of Human Resource objectives. This position requires flexibility to support multiple HR initiatives with a high degree of discretion, communication, energy, precision, and accountability.  This hands-on role is critical to support the delivery of HR programs, services, and activities.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement and administer best in class human resources programs and processes.
  • Execute and administer company policies and procedures.
  • Provide advice and service to all levels of the organization on employee relations, engagement, and talent management process.
  • Facilitate completion of employee performance review process.
  • Partner with talent acquisition team to lead the process to attract high performing candidates.
  • Participate in recruitment activities as needed.  Understand and effectively utilize applicant tracking system.
  • Support compensation initiatives including performing job analyses, gathering wage information, and FLSA compliance.
  • Assist in investigation and resolution of employee issues.
  • Respond with urgency to important DOT/FTA matters including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Track employee credentials and training to maintain federal, state and contractual requirements.
  • Assist in the coordination of employee training and recertification programs.
  • Administration of FMLA and other leaves of absences.
  • Initial contact for all unemployment claims processing.
  • Actively participate in teams and committees.
  • Maintain HRIS records and compile reports from the database.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating company events and in-service training.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:  This position has no direct reports.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.   
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in  a human resources role required; five (5) years is preferred.
  • SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, or PHR certification is preferred. 
  • If HR credential is not held, a willingness to obtain certification within 6-12 months.
  • Demonstrated understanding/knowledge of the fundamental aspects of human resources is required.   
  • Working knowledge of Federal and State employment laws is required.

  • Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
    • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.    
  • Reasoning Ability:   Ability to solve practical problems and deal with situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.                                          
  • Computer Skills:   Ability to use a personal computer, telephone, copy machine, printers, and calculators,etc. 
    • Proficient in Microsoft Business Applications software.  Ability to learn and use new software programs quickly and efficiently.                                    
  • Other Skills and Abilities:  Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work setting while paying attention to detail.  
    • Ability to resolve different problems or issues quickly. 
    • Ability to relate with diverse people in a pleasant manner.   
  • Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear others in person or by telephone. 
    • Ability to work shifts of at least eight (8) hours, and occasionally longer, five (5) days per week, occasionally a Saturday. 
    • Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods. 
    • The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger and handle. 
    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. 
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
